It really doesn't really get stranger in animal-related memes than having your pet sport silk stockings. Some aficionados even go the extra mile and have their dogs put on high-heeled shoes, just for the fun of it.
The meme popped up on Chinese social networking site Weibo and has since caught on. Refinery 29 describes that most users think that this qualifies as an attempt to humiliate your pet.
I believe that it humanizes dogs, which is probably something that owners dressing them up in sweaters and other wacky outfits also aim to do.
