The handset is barely a week old, but here are its insides

Last week we told you about Vivo’s new X5 Max smartphone, which stole Oppo’s R5 throne as the slimmest handset in the world, curtsey of its thin frame of 4.77 mm / 0.18 inches.

Well, you’re probably quite curious to know how Vivo managed to squeeze all the smartphone’s internal components in such an anorexic frame.

Luckily, the folks over at My Drivers have already performed a teardown of the handset, letting you take a peek at what lies inside.

Check out the insides of the Vivo X5 Max

Believe it or not, the motherboard is just 1.7mm / 0.06 thick, which is quite impressive. On the negative side of things, the battery packed under the hood is just 2000mAh, so don’t expect the smartphone to offer prolonged hours of use.

The dissection also showed that the X5 Max’s dual SIM slots live crowded against the microSD slot on the side of the phone. The motherboard is shaped like an L and goes around the battery.

Vivo even managed to squeeze a 3.5mm audio jack and a Yamaha digital surround signal processing chip. Interestingly enough, the Oppo R5 does not come with a regular audio jack.

If you have been following our coverage on the Vivo X5 Max, you probably know that the device isn’t actually available for purchase just yet and the way things are evolving, its official retail launch might get a little delayed.

Why are we saying that? Well, the Vivo X5 Max isn’t interesting to us only because it bears the title of world’s thinnest smartphone.

Vivo X5 Max is powered by a new 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615

It’s also one of the first smartphones to take advantage of Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 615 processor. The chip is a 64-bit octa-core CPU with 4G capabilities, which was scheduled to arrive in February 2015.

But a recent report claims Qualcomm is having some design issues with the chip, so its launch might get delayed. This naturally means the X5 Max will probably lag in making an appearance on retail shelves. And by the time this happens, another smartphone might have taken the crown of world’s thinnest smartphone.

As we wait on that, we’re taking a moment to remind you that the Vivo X5 Max should ship out with a 5.5-inch 1080p super AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chip clocked at 1.7GHz fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB).

The device also has a 13MP camera taking advantage of a Sony IMX214 sensor plus a 5MP webcam up in front.

If we’re lucky the handset will arrive in China on December 22 and will cost you approximately $485 / €392.
