Take-Two Interactive has just filed a trademark for 'Rockstar Films' hinting at the possibility that it will establish a brand new entity, together with its longtime partner Rockstar Games, which should handle the movie adaptations of the many franchises owned by the prestigious developer and publisher.

Rockstar Games has been scoring massive hits in the last years, as besides its extremely popular Grand Theft Auto franchise, it has released titles like Red Dead Redemption or the recent L.A. Noire, which impressed a lot of players through their elaborate stories and top-notch gameplay.

Just like with most popular games, rumors of movie adaptations for the aforementioned titles have sprung up from time to time, but they were all bogus, as Rockstar has dealt just with games up until now.

This might change soon, however, as Take-Two Interactive has filed a trademark for 'Rockstar Films', and registered .com and .net domains for it recently, according to System Link.

The trademark relates to a variety of things, including "animated motion picture films featuring entertainment, namely, action, adventure, dramatic, comedic, children's and documentary themes; pre-recorded video discs and other pre-recorded digital and electronic media in the field of live action programs, motion pictures, or animation featuring entertainment, namely, action, adventure, dramatic, comedic, children's and documentary themes."

Rockstar co-founder Dan House went on the record a few months ago saying that, if a property of the company would be turned into a movie, Rockstar would supervise or even produce it itself, in order to ensure a proper experience.

"We have explored a lot of movie deals, but we have just chosen not to make a movie. We love movies, but we also love games and that is what we remain focused on. If we were to attempt to make a movie, we would like to make it ourselves, or at least work in collaboration with the best talent, so at least if it is bad, we can know we failed on our own terms."

From the trademark above, it seems that House and Take-Two are bent on respecting their words, and might actually start their own movie division, just like Ubisoft, which launched its own film department earlier this year.
