With Red Dead Redemption being one of the best reviewed and best sold videogames of the year Take Two could shed its image of a publisher which is only successful when the next iteration of the Grand Theft Auto franchise is launched. And it seems that the company is interested in expanding its offer even more with the aim of launching a new intellectual property every year.

Talking to Gamasutra Alan Lewis, who is a vice president in charge of communications at Take Two, he said that his company has eight series that have managed to move more than 5 million units while 17 of them pushed out more than one million. But this is often ignored by observers who only see how Grand Theft Auto, especially in its most recent incarnation, has managed to dominate the open world gaming space. Only BioShock and the recent Red Dead Redemption are close to GTA in terms of player popularity.

Talking about the Western open world game Lewis admitted that the game was delayed quite a bit but he said this shows “to make a great game, sometimes you need to give the developers ample time to make something great” before adding “We certainly feel like it was worth the additional time that was put in. Not only the quality, but the consumer response has shown us it is worthwhile to do that.”

In 2010 Take Two is getting ready to launch Mafia II, another game that has seen extensive delays and is set to tell a story built around the rise and fall of gangster syndicates after World War II. The company is also working on Max Payne 3, a revival of the series created by Volition, which was initially set to arrive this year but it is now planned to come out before March 2011.
