Earlier this month, during the Taiwanese singing competition Super Star Avenue, a boy named Lin Yu Chun became the “Taiwanese Susan Boyle” after he sang to perfection Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” as impossible a feat that might seem unless you’re Whitney herself. Now, Chun makes his debut on the US talk show circuit with a performance on George Lopez.

It’s not just any kind of performance either, as the Wall Street Journal and the video below can both confirm. Though not exactly known for his music skills but rather for his voice that fans could tell apart from a million, William Shatner joined Chun on stage for a rendition of Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” The result is, of course, somewhat odd at first, but still pretty amazing, as the combination begins to make sense shortly after the song unravels.

“William Shatner has become a clutch performer for late-night television hosts. First, he helped Conan O’Brien elevate the tweets of Sarah Palin and others into sweet spoken-word poetry. Now, he’s dueting with Susan Boyle look-alikes,” WSJ reports. Judging by the reaction of the audience on the show, Shatner’s new thing, that of being a “clutch performer,” is starting to pay off.

On last night’s episode of the George Lopez show, he sang – or rather, did his spoken word thing on – “Total Eclipse of the Heart” with Lin Yu Chun, the Taiwanese singer who shot to momentary stardom with his performance of ‘I Will Always Love You’ on the reality show Super Star Avenue. Later on his Twitter account, Shatner called Chun ‘phenomenal… What a dilemma for me having to come sing with him’,” WSJ further writes.

Below is the surprising duet, which, according to many, is truly phenomenal, as Shatner calls it. Watch and see for yourselves whether he’s right – and, of course, enjoy.
