Producer and singer says his first choice was Lady Gaga

British music producer, songwriter, singer and occasional rapper Taio Cruz has already conquered US charts with his “Break Your Heart” ft. Ludacris. For his next single, Cruz has joined forces with one of the hottest young artists on the scene, the outspoken Ke$ha, though she was not the first choice that came to his mind, as he explains in an interview with MTV News.

Explaining the message behind “Dirty Picture,” which is not really that hard to guess after all, Taio says that he initially thought of Gaga for a collaboration on it. He was looking for a woman to sing on the track and, of course, he wanted someone with a particular sound, someone who needed no introduction when her music was being played on the radio. He knew that Ke$ha was that person when he first heard her sing – she hadn’t released “TiK ToK” at the time.

“I was thinking about Lady Gaga at first. Then I went to a meeting with [producer] Dr. Luke and he was telling me about this new girl he was working with. She hadn’t done ‘TiK ToK’ or anything like that at that point. But I just thought she sounded really cool. A very unique-sounding voice. I like that with artists, that as soon as you hear them on a song on the radio, you know immediately who that is without having to be told,” Taio reveals for MTV.

“I just thought she was talented. Her voice was awesome. It had this – I hope she won’t mind me saying this, but her voice has this kind of yodely quality to it, the way that she does things and the way that she ends words. I just loved that quality about it,” the singer goes on to explain. This way, he came to work with Ke$ha on “Dirty Picture,” a song about two people who are in a relationship and who keep the flame burning by sending pictures of themselves to their significant other whenever they’re apart.

“Dirty Picture” will start getting airplay in June this year, MTV News further says. “Rockstarr,” the album on which it will be featured, is scheduled for a tentative release on May 18. Below is the track in question. Enjoy.
