Slates have become the public’s favorite but they won’t replace notebooks, Quanta believes

Tablets are some of the most popular and hip devices out there and notebooks are going down. Or at least that’s what sale numbers seem to indicate, as of late.

But despite evidence, Quanta Computer chairman Barry Lam seems to believe otherwise, reports by DigiTimes indicate. Speaking at an investors’ conference, he explained that tablets would never replace notebooks because notebooks are devices used for work and he doesn't see that changing any time soon.

When asked to comment about the rumors indicating that Apple and Samsung are gearing up to release large-size tablets, he pointed out that, as tablets get larger and larger, so will their price, making them come bearing price tags comparable to notebooks.

According to Lam, most notebook shipments are targeting 14-inch and 15-inch models, a thing that shows users are mostly using the devices for working and browsing the online environment. But with larger screens come larger costs and this currently represents a turn-off for most consumers.

The official didn't make any mention of the smaller screen slates, but it’s obvious he believes they are to be used for entertainment and not work or business.
