Intel is focusing on bringing more and more affordable tablet chip solutions in 2014

Convertible devices are expected to gain more territory in 2014, as the producing industry will start lowering their prices more and more.

Chip manufacturing Intel expects manufacturers to come out with lots of new affordable models which will certainly manage to attract the interest of customers everywhere, reports FirstPost.

Director of Marketing and Market Development for Intel India, Sandeep Aurora said “in 2013, we saw a lot of OEMs coming out with 2-in-1 devices, which could be used both as PC and tablet. They called it swivel, hybrids and some other names too.”

“This year, we expect prices to come down a little, which could drive the adoption further.”

A hybrid model is currently priced at around Rs. 34,000 / $545 / €399 in the country, but 2014 might see price margins drop below Rs. 30,000 / $481 / €352 as more OEMs launch products.

Moving on to discuss Intel’s 2014 roadmap, the exec clearly stated that Intel was planning to focus on tablets.

“We will have processors for both tabs and smartphones but the focus is more towards tablets. Also, going forward all our OEMs partners will be manufacturing devices based on BayTrail.”

Intel is also planning to launch new tablet processors in 2014, with the Cherry Trail-T coming in September and Willow Trail in Q4.
