Even though IT entities are divided in terms of what to expect from the tablet and laptop markets, one thing, at least, is clear, that being that tablet sales have gone up and, thus, so have those of LCD panels.

Quite a bit of talk surrounding the tablet and overall laptop industry has been going around the web recently.

While slates are, apparently, doing well, for now anyway, shipments of notebooks aren't so spectacular, causing decline in optimism all around.

Still, if any segment is performing better than others, it has to be that of tablet displays, shipments of which have grown by 28% during the month of May alone, sequentially speaking.

For those that want this percentage translated into an actual shipment figure, global touch panels were shipped in the million, 6.34 million units to be more or less exact.

Needless to say, Apple, purveyor of the iPad, is the main cause for this phenomenon, with 9.7-inch panel shipments of 5.38 million units.

In the meantime, 10.1-inch models got to 986,000 units, the majority of these landing in Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

In other words, iPad panels grew by 26% in shipments on month, while the rest saw a rise of 37%, even though, ultimately, Apple's device still reigns supreme.

Speaking of which, with the iPad 2 in such a clear lead, it is unclear if touch panels will keep increasing in monthly sales, seeing as how sales of all others sorts of slates haven't really gone either way in terms of shipments.

On the flip side, there is the matter of not just the aforementioned Galaxy Tab 10.1, but also of the soon-to-come Panasonic Toughbook and other products from Lenovo (two inbound items), among others.

If non-iPads start to increase in profile, things will keep moving ahead as far as display suppliers are concerned.
