The National Enquirer has proven, once more, that it doesn't hold back to scooping to new lows in order to sell more copies. The latest issue brings on the cover the “final” photo of late singer Whitney Houston.

As fans must know, the diva was found dead in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 11. She was laid to rest in a private ceremony last weekend.

The ceremony was preceded by another one, a “home going” / tribute / public viewing, which streamed online and which was attended by friends, family and famous collaborators.

While many believed Whitney could finally find her peace, it seems neither she nor her family can: The National Enquirer has just published a photo of Whitney, dead in her casket, as the Daily Mail can confirm.

“It is understood the photograph was taken inside the Whigham Funeral Home in Newark, New Jersey, where her family attended a private wake last Friday on the eve of her funeral,” the British tab writes.

“The magazine claims the photo was taken at the private viewing - although does not reveal who took the picture,” adds the same media outlet.

The Enquirer also boasts of being in the possession of even sordid details, such as the worth of the diamonds Whitney was buried with, what she was wearing and the kind of shoes she had on.

Out of respect for the singer and her still grieving family, we will include none of that here.

As one can easily imagine, the moment the Enquirer cover emerged online, reaction to it on Twitter has been mostly negative.

Various public figures have taken it upon themselves to warn the tab that it's stepping over some boundaries it should never cross, and that some things are simply not done.

However, if you remember, this is not the first time that the rag does something like this: back in March 2007, it pulled a similar stunt with Anna Nicole Smith, the tragic glamor model who died of a drug OD.

On that particular occasion, some paparazzo slipped into the morgue where Smith's body was kept, and photographed her like that.

Neither then nor now did the Enquirer believe it owed some sort of explanation to the families of both stars.
