The local government will stop subsidizing LCD TVs

So far, sales of HD LCD TVs in China have been going so smoothly because the government has been subsidizing them, seeking to get all its citizens accustomed to technologies of convenience.

This, sadly has come to an end. The company stopped offering subsidies back in May 2013.

That is why, in the third quarter of the year (3Q13), shipments are expected to drop by quite a bit there.

In fact, Digitimes has foretold a drop of 25%. After all, since the discontinuation, sales have dropped 37.8% compared to June 17-23.

Both on quarter and on-year TV sales are bound to take a hit.

During the whole first half of 2013, 23.62 million LCD TVs were sold in China. In the second quarter, the figure will drop to 20.21 million, despite the holiday season.

Industry players might convince the government to extend subsidies, but no progress has been reported on that front.
