Mariah Carey was recently in London to turn on the Christmas lights and, at the same time, do a couple of interviews to promote her latest album, “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.” She also made an appearance on GMTV, with the host of the show, Kate Garraway, telling the media only hours later that she had acted like a demanding, obnoxious diva – words that Garraway is now taking back, together with an official apology, the Mirror informs.

Among the many things the talk show host revealed – and shouldn’t have without proper consideration – was also that Mariah had brought along two staff members whose only job was to lower her down on the sofa, an entourage that took over the set, and even her own roll of toilet paper. Now, forced by her bosses and after learning that the singer took her words to heart and was very offended by them, Garraway is apologizing.

“I am really sorry about the furor I caused last week after I wrote in this column about Mariah Carey’s appearance on GMTV. Especially because I am told it has upset the star herself, which is the last thing I intended. You will remember I said how nice Mariah was. Everyone at GMTV loved having her on and her performance, typically, blew us all away. But it was wrong for me to add some jokes and gossip about her being a diva. Her management have now told me that I got hold of the wrong end of the stick completely and I am still reeling from the massive ticking off my bosses gave me for fuelling the rumors that Mariah is unreasonably demanding,” the GMTV host says.

Garraway goes on to say that stars of Mariah’s caliber are usually surrounded by more people than the average pop star – and, in all fairness, there are few female singers out there who can outclass Carey in terms of vocals and sales. Moreover, it’s precisely things like these that make her so fascinating for her fans and the media in general. Garraway’s mistake was that of making of this a laughing matter, when it shouldn’t have even gotten outside the walls of the set.

“Of course a star of Mariah's magnitude is bound to have a lot of people around her when she appears on a show like GMTV, especially as in this instance she also had a group of backing singers as well – no one would expect anything less. Let’s face it – the world would be a much duller place without people like Mariah and it’s only because they are such stars that we all love to gossip about them. I am so sorry, Mariah, and I really hope that you come back to the UK soon,” the talk show host adds.
