Quality over quantity

Ever since Valve revealed that the Friendship update was actually the War update, things have become so hectic that we get new additions to the game everyday. Yesterday, we saw how the slightly overwhelmed Demoman received a brand-new Close Combat Kit to try to even the scales a bit, today it's the Soldier's turn to kick things into overdrive. With this new update, Valve has also released a new issue in the update-comic, and the friendship-turned-war scenario becomes even clearer.

While our Scottish Demoman was just gullible in believing the announcer, the Soldier has decided to take part in the carnage out of mental simplicity and blind pride. As such, Mann Co. has put the Soldier on the receiving end of its top-of-the-line products this time, and the class has gotten itself a new weapon. An upgraded version of the standard rocket launcher, the Direct Hit is meant for the more advanced Soldiers amongst us, as the weapon becomes a destructive force only in the hands of a truly skilled marksman.

The official update reads that, “A high precision version of the standard-issue rocket launcher, the Direct Hit has been engineered from the ground up for Soldiers who have mastered the art of shooting at their targets instead of vaguely near them.”

The Direct Hit has some very precise stats to go with its new abilities, so study them hard if you want to master the battlefield. “Those of you looking to deal splash damage, stop reading now: the Direct Hit has a 70% smaller blast radius than a traditional rocket launcher. But the rockets that come out of this thing move fast and hit hard: 80% faster and with 25% more destructive force. Best of all, for you real sharpshooters, the Direct Hit guarantees mini-crits on airborne targets.”

As an added bonus, Valve has decided to give people four free days to take part in the war, so, starting tomorrow, you can download a trial version of Team Fortress 2 that will include all the new things that the War update has provided. If you want to make every second of this free trial count, you can start pre-loading the game right now and begin the fight tomorrow, at daybreak.
