Team Fortress 2 is one of the biggest online shooters out there, owning much of its established fan base to the fact that new content is being released periodically, managing to keep the experience fresh and exciting for players.

But while all of the other updates released so far were centered on one or more classes of characters, it seems that the upcoming one won't be biased and will apply to all of the many classes featured in the game. We already saw the new hats that players would be able to sport yesterday, plus one new map for the Arena mode, and today new things have also been announced.

The most important part of today's update will be the new King of the Hill mode, which takes the capture the point mechanic to a whole new level. “King of the Hill (KotH) is an intense new game mode focused around a single central capture point that must be defended for three minutes. Gameplay begins with the point initially locked—after a short time, it will open for capture by either team. Once the point is captured by a team, their team clock will start a three minute countdown. If the enemy team manages to capture the point back, their clock will start counting down while the other team’s clock freezes at the time the point was recaptured.”

Also, as this mode couldn't have come without any dedicated maps, a brand-new one called Viaduct was developed with King of the Hill in mind. This will be set outside a mountain complex and, officially, will be the first map where the events take place during a snowfall. “Both teams start at the base of a low hill, and will have to climb to get to the capture point at the hill’s peak. The various elevations of the map and multiple routes to the central point guarantee some frenzied battles as the point changes hands during gameplay.”

And because just one map for the new mode would have been boring, two older maps, Nucleus and Sawmill, have been outfitted with new things and adapted to this new King of the Hill mode, guaranteeing a lot of memorable moments while playing TF2.

Overall, the update is shaping up quite nicely and will certainly make many players start playing TF2 once more.
