Today, Canada's TELUS announced that a new Android-based smartphone is expected to become available for purchase in Canada on its airwaves, namely the Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 4G, the fastest handset in the country, with support for download speeds of up to 21 megabits per second (Mbps). The wireless carrier touts the upcoming mobile phone as being the first 4G smartphone in the country, capable of providing 50 percent faster speeds than any other smartphone on the Canadian market.

The new device arrives on shelves with a 4-inch super AMOLED touch screen, offering a great experience when it comes to viewing HD movies, playing games or reading e-books.

“We are thrilled to be working with Samsung to offer Canada's first 4G smartphone that combines ultra fast download speeds and advanced smartphone capabilities,” said David Fuller, Chief Marketing Officer at TELUS.

“TELUS is committed to offering our customers the most advanced technology and the richest, most powerful mobile experiences available. The Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 4G is a great example. It will be the fastest smartphone in Canada a running on Canada's fastest coast-to-coast mobile 4G network.”

The mobile phone also comes with a 1GHz application processor inside, with true multitasking capabilities, mobile Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities, and more.

Samsung packed it with a front facing camera for easy video chat, and with 5.0 megapixel photo snapper on the back, with video recording capabilities, as well as with a microSD memory card slot up to 32GB of for additional storage space (a 16 GB card included into the mix).

The smartphone is based on Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, though it should receive an update to Android 2.3 in the not too far future, TELUS notes. Adobe Flash 10.1 and support for various applications available in the Android Market were also packed with this device.

Unfortunately, specific info on the availability of Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 4G at TELUS, or on its pricing were not unveiled for the time being.
