Canadian wireless carrier TELUS announced officially that the Android 2.2 Froyo software update for its HTC Desire smartphone is already available for its users as an over-the-air update. The announcement follows the release of this update last week, when it was announced as available for the first time, though TELUS pulled it soon after.

“TELUS has released a free firmware over the air (FOTA) update to all TELUS HTC Desire users - OS 2.2 Upgrade is now officially available," a tweet from the wireless carrier reads.

The new announcement should make a wide range of users rejoice, especially since TELUS is among the carriers which delayed the release of this software for quite some time.

Another recent tweet from the carrier even suggested that we might see further delays for Android 2.2 Froyo on HTC Desire, though things turned differently in the end, it seems.

“We got word that Android 2.2 has been pushed back and will be out in the near future in Q4,” the said tweet from the wireless carrier stated (via MobilSyrup).

Previously, the company announced that it planned on making the software update available for its HTC Desire users before October was over, but it appears that it had to push it back a little.

However, things are finally getting on the right path, as the Android 2.2 Froyo update is being sent over the air to Desire users.

Of course, not all TELUS customers owning a HTC Desire will receive the software update right away, and some of them would have to wait a little longer before the carrier makes it available for their devices.

In other markets, the HTC Desire started to receive the Android 2.2 software update since summer, but carrier-branded devices tasted the solution a few weeks later.

Nonetheless, while other operators already delivered the software update for their HTC Desire customers, it appears that TELUS needed some more time before making it available for its users.
