Mobile software developer Handmark announced a deal with Canadian operator TELUS that will make an updated version of Handmark's Pocket Express application available on TELUS smartphones. The application will provide users with access to mobile travel services, and with the ability to download mobile content including applications, games and ringtones directly from their cell phone.

The Pocket Express software gives consumers access to a wealth of information from their mobile, such as breaking news, sports, movie times, weather and stock updates; and also allows them to perform residential and business directory searches. Apart from these, the version of Pocket Express offered on TELUS smartphones also delivers a powerful collection of travel services with airline schedules and flight status updates from the Official Airlines Guide including details on more than 75,000 daily departures from more than 3,500 airports around the world.

In addition to providing TELUS with the Pocket Express service, Handmark is also powering a new desktop Internet store that allows TELUS customers to purchase applications, games and other mobile content. Handmark has also created an integrated billing system that allows users to buy content for their smartphone - both from within the Pocket Express store on their device and through the Web store - with the purchase price being added to their monthly TELUS bill. Most of the new TELUS smartphones will come preloaded with Pocket Express, while existing clients will be able to download the application from the Internet store.

"It is our passion and our purpose to present our clients with the best products and services on the market to create the best mobile experience possible," said David Neale, TELUS senior vice-president of Products and Services. "Handmark has a proven track record of delivering excellent mobile media, including Pocket Express, and we are confident that our customers will be pleased with the outcomes of this partnership."
