The very first mobile phone of TAG Heuer, namely the luxurious Meridiist, is now presented in a video promo, meant to increase the interest of those who might want to buy it. Also, TAG Heuer announced the date when its new phone will be available for purchase: September 2008.

In case you don't know, TAG Heuer is a famous Swiss manufacturer of watches and chronographs, many of which are luxury products. With a history of almost 150 years, TAG Heuer has now decided to enter the mobile market, and it has partnered with ModeLabs, the France-based company that usually works with famous brands and builds cell phones for them. Thus, TAG Heuer joins the likes of Armani, Prada, Levi's and Christian Dior, all of which have been flirting with the mobile industry lately.

Besides being a luxury handset, TAG Heuer Meridiist is a unique device. First of all due to its design, that clearly separates it from most of the expensive handsets released until now. Presented as the ultimate "cosmopolitan traveling companion", the Meridiist is assembled by hand from no less than 430 components, much like a high-precision watch is made. Its case is built from corrosion-resistant steel, while its display is made out of sapphire crystal (60.5 carats) and cannot be scratched.

Aside from these cool aspects, TAG Heuer Meridiist also features an "independent time unit" found on its upper side, Music and Video players, Bluetooth, a 2 Megapixel camera and a battery that can last up to 7 hours in talk-time mode and up to 28 days in stand-by mode.

The exclusive Meridiist will be available in TAG Heuer boutiques as well as in several watch and jewelry stores. Its retail price starts from around 3,400 Euros ($5,250), so only really rich users will actually be able to buy it. Much like the guy driving the Mercedes seen in the promo video (nice music, by the way):
