With new studio, new developers

It seems that, at long last, someone is ready to step up and take over development of the legacy of Flagship Studios, which imploded last month. There are reports that T3 Entertainment, an Asian publisher, is getting ready to create a new development and support studio in the San Francisco area. There are several job postings available at the still-to-be-named studio which have appeared on sites like Gamasutra and DICE. They read "T3 Entertainment is searching for creative minds to passionately continue development of Hellgate: London and Mythos, along with other new games, which are being published by HanbitSoft Inc."

T3 Entertainment is at the moment based in Korea and is best known for the work it has done on Audition, which is popular with Asian players. It has recently taken a controlling stake in HanbitSoft, the company that had the rights to publish and maintain Hellgate: London on the Asian market.

It is unclear at the moment why T3 did not step in before Flagship Studios went under. After all, if it has the will and the money to make Hellgate viable as an MMO while also continuing the work on Mythos, which has recently reached beta stage, it would have been wise to do it by taking over the staff that Flagship has working on the titles. It's always easier to make games with the original people who worked on them than to bring in new teams that will likely have to do major changes.

Bill Roper and Max Schaefer, who were key people in Flagship, have not revealed whether they are involved in the new studio undertaking or not.

At the moment, Hellgate is still functional, although you cannot create new subscriptions. The beta for Mythos has been shut down, even if apparently 300,000 people had signed up for it.
