Shortly after pushing a maintenance update to all HTC Amaze 4G devices, T-Mobile USA plans to roll out a similar Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread update for Samsung Galaxy S II.

According to the carrier, the update will be pushed OTA (over the air) and via Samsung Kies mini beginning today.

Software update Android 2.3.5 version T989VUVKL1 adds various improvements, which were introduced based on customer feedback.

However, the upgrade to KL1 is not mandatory, so Galaxy S II owners may choose to avoid the upgrade and continue using the previous software version.

Although T-Mobile USA states that this update should not affect any content or contacts that are stored on the Samsung Galaxy S II, it is recommended to back up all data to prevent accidental loss due to unforeseeable issues with the upgrade.

In addition, Galaxy S II owners should make sure that they also back up any content saved on the internal (non-removable) SD card.

T-Mobile USA who own the Samsung Galaxy S II and choose to upgrade to the latest T989VUVKL1 software version will benefit from the following improvements: Caller ID enhancements, Battery enhancements, and Wi-Fi calling enhancements.

Given the fact that the update is being rolled out OTA (over the air), there’s no way to manually request a KL1 push. However, the carrier confirmed that the deployment process will be complete over the coming weeks.

This means that users who did not receive a notification of the update on their Samsung Galaxy S II devices may want to check for it manually. Even if the update is not yet available make sure you check for it later.

In case you choose to make the update OTA make sure you have a reliable Wi-Fi connection to avoid unnecessary billing. Also note that during the update the phone cannot be used.
