Today, wireless carrier T-Mobile USA, Inc. announced its financial results for the third quarter of the ongoing year, and posted net income of $320 million for the time frame, down both seqentially and on an yearly basis.

The wireless carrier also announced net customer additions of 137,000 for the time frame, on service revenues of $4.71 billion, and OIBDA of $1.32 billion.

For Comparison, during the third quarter of the last year, the carrier registered net customer additions of 77,000, with service revenues of $4.73 billion, and OIBDA of $1.56 billion.

The company notes that the number of customers using smartphones on its airwaves went up significantly in the time frame, and that they determined blended data ARPU growth.

“The revenue trend in the third quarter showed continued improvement. Lower OIBDA was a direct result of the efforts to grow smartphone customers and higher investment in T-Mobile’s 4G network,” said Philipp Humm, CEO and President, T-Mobile USA.

“These early investments will enable us to provide great customer experiences and allow us to scale our cost structure effectively as more customers utilize data services,” he continued.

T-Mobile USA registered a number of 33.8 million customers at the end of the third quarter of the year, up from 33.6 million in the previous quarter and from 33.4 million at the end of Q3 2009.

Churn was 3.4 percent in the third quarter of 2010, the carrier notes, adding that it was in line with both the second quarter of the year, and with the third quarter a year ago.

OIBDA was of $1.32 billion in the third quarter, down from $1.42 billion in the second quarter, while OIBDA margin was of 28 percent in the time frame, compared to 30 percent in the previous quarter.

Blended Average Revenue Per User was $47 in the third quarter of 2010, the same as in the previous quarter, the mobile phone carrier announced.

Data service revenues were $1.26 billion for the three-month period, up 25 percent from the same quarter a year ago.

René Obermann, Chief Executive Officer, Deutsche Telekom, said, “I am very pleased with the development of blended data ARPU. Along with the growing number of smartphones, this demonstrates the potential of mobile broadband data growth in the US market and for T-Mobile USA in particular.”

In the fourth quarter, the wireless carrier should bring a nice range of appealing products to its users, including the recently launched myTouch 4G, as well as with Samsung Galaxy Tab, and its first Windows Phone 7 device, the HTC HD7.
