14 DAY TRIAL // It looks like T-Mobile will finally release the Lumia 640 next week, after a long and painful wait. Even though the carrier confirmed it would bring the smartphone to its network at some point, the Magenta did not announce when exactly the Windows Phone will go on sale.
We reported last month that Lumia 640 might arrive at T-Mobile and Metro PCS on June 15 since the latter holds a contest where participants can win the said smartphone if their pre-register on the carrier's website.
The contest is supposed to end on June 15, which is why we thought T-Mobile and Metro PCS will launch the Lumia 640 on or around that date.
Well, it looks like the information wasn't totally inaccurate since WindowsCentral got their hands on a T-Mobile internal document that confirms Lumia 640 should go on sale on June 17.
It will only be available online
Moreover, the said document also mentions that the Lumia 640 won't be available at T-Mobile's brick and mortar stores on that date.
Instead, the smartphone will be available for purchase via “Ship to (direct fulfillment)” system, which means customers will only be able to order the Lumia 640 online.
The good news is T-Mobile Lumia 640 is likely to be available at other third-party retailers such as Walmart and Best Buy. In fact, Walmart has already sold a few Lumia 640 units last month for only $99 outright, so this might be the final price of the smartphone.
T-Mobile Lumia 640 will ship with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 right out of the box, but it will also feature HD Voice (VoLTE) and native Wi-Fi calling.
The rest of the phone's specs are more than decent for a handset that costs less than $100. For example, it sports a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating.
The Lumia 640 also packs a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 128GB).
