LG and T-Mobile have just confirmed that they have started to roll out the Android 2.3 Gingerbread software update for the G2x smartphones.

It appears that the deployment process has started yesterday, but it will take a few days until all T-Mobile G2x users will receive it.

T-Mobile is rolling out the update OTA (over the air), so G2x users should check their smartphones for the newly announced upgrade by going to Settings / About Phone / Software Update.

Beside the Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform, the software update brings several improvements, which are detailed below:

- Improved battery life; - Improved front-facing camera operation when using Qik record and share; - Improved disabling Car Home; - Helps address unexpected reboots.

Other improvements and new features offered by Gingerbread include a new on-screen keyboard, which provides users with a more refined experience with faster input and intuitive typing, as well as a Downloads application that allows users to view and access all downloaded attachments.

In addition, the copy and paste function has been improved and is now more convenient by using a long press to select the content to be copied.

On related news, it looks like T-Mobile and LG decided to pull most of the G2x stocks from the shelves and resend them with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board.

Although this created quite a ruckus among Android fans who thought that the smartphone will soon be discontinued, it appears that the carrier clarified the situation as soon as the first G2x units with Gingerbread on board hit shelves.

Even though the Gingerbread update was somewhat accessible since the beginning of the week through the LG updater program, several G2x users who tried to flash the update bricked their devices.

Fortunately, T-Mobile decided to push the update OTA, so G2x should not have any problems completing the upgrade process.
