François Dupoux proudly announced two days ago, November 1st, a major release of his popular SystemRescueCd Linux-based operating system for rescue and recovery tasks.

The SystemRescueCd 2.4.0 Linux Live CD operating system for rescue tasks, includes the latest stable version of the Linux kernel, an updated version of the XOrg Server, Mozilla Firefox, and Gparted applications.

Without further ado, let's have a look at the main changes brought by SystemRescueCd 2.4.0:

· Updated the standard Linux kernel package to version 3.0.8 (with rescuecd and rescue64); · Updated the alternative Linux kernel packages to version 3.1.0 (with altker32 and altker64); · Removed the Reiser4 Linux kernel patch from all the included kernel packages (no patch for Linux kernel 3.x); · Updated Xorg Server to version 1.10.4; · Updated Mozilla Firefox web browser to version 7.0.1; · Updated GParted to version 0.10.0.

This is the first stable release of SystemRescueCd that includes the new Linux kernel 3.1. The recently released GParted 0.10.0 application is also included in SystemRescueCd 2.4.0, providing better support for partitioning tasks.

Even if it's not included in the official changelog, SystemRescueCd 2.4.0 comes now with an updated DHCP package, from the 4.x series. A patched Parted 2.4 with fixes from the Fedora operating system was also included since version 2.3.1 of SystemRescueCd.
