System Configuration in phpBB3

In System Configuration section of Administration Panel you can create some maintenance tasks for your board. The sections are: Automation, General Tasks and Module Management. In Automation you can check if you have installed the latest version of phpBB.

From General Tasks menu you can configure spiders or robots, send mass email to users, install new language packs and manage report/denial reasons. The Bots are automated agents most commonly used by search engines to update their databases. Unfortunately they can distort visitor counts, increase load and sometimes fail to index sites correctly. The solution is to add a special type of user to avoid this kind of problems. There are different types of automated agents: bots (like Alexa, Altavista, Ask Jeeves, Gigabot, etc), crawlers (like FAST Enterprise, Heise IT-Markt, Heritrix), spiders, sitesearch, Linkcheck, validator.

From Mass E-mail menu you can send mass emails to users or groups of users. To receive the mass emails, the users must have the option to receive mass e-mails enabled. Be careful, the default setting includes only 50 recipients in such an e-mail; for more recipients more e-mails will be sent. If you want to send such a mail to many users or to a large group of users be patient after submitting and do not stop the page halfway through. It is normal for a mass emailing to take a long time, you will be notified when the script has completed.

If you want to install another language pack or if you want to change the language from your board, go to Language Packs menu. If you need to know what version of PHP you have installed on your webserver, PHP Informations will do it for you. From there you can find not only the version of PHP, but also details about loaded modules, available variables and default settings. This information may be useful when diagnosing problems. Be careful and do not provide this information to another users.

In Manage report/denial reasons you can configure the reasons used in reports and denial messages when disapproving posts. If you want to add another reason, simply type your reason and click on Add new reason. In the next window you will provide the name of the reason and description of the reason.

In Module Management you can change the modules for Administration Control Panel, User Control Panel and Moderator Control Panel. Be careful with the settings, because you may disable an important module.
