By now, multiple companies have delivered HDD with capacities of 3TB, and the NAS market decided not to fall behind, so Synology delivered a NAS server that can handle such hard disk drives.

Network-attached storage (NAS) devices have become quite widespread as means of providing home and small office networks with solid amount of storage.

Synology has an entire collection of NAS devices available, under the name of DiskStation.

The newest model to be added to this line is dubbed DiskStation DS211+ and is one that can accommodate two 3.5-inch hard disk drives with capacities of up to 3 TB.

It measures 165 x 108 x 233.2 mm and features all the connectors needed to communicate not just with the network, but with other devices as well.

This means that, in addition to Gigabit Ethernet, it is designed with an eSATA port, an SD card slot and three USB 2.0 ports.

These, plus the two drive bays, are managed by a processor with a frequency of 1.6 GHz, backed by 512 MB of memory and active cooling.

All in all, the product weighs 1.25 kg, can read and write from and onto the HDDs at up to 1080 MB/s and 55 MB/s, respectively, and consumes an average of 24W while making 19.4dB(A) of noise at most.

"When you factor in the benefits of the newer hardware on productivity, this is just a great answer to the needs of small businesses," said Jason Bonoan, Product Marketing Manager at Synology America.

"With support for 3TB drives, that allows for volumes up to 6TB, plenty of space for many small businesses,” Bonoan added.

“This new model just represents a value unmatched by DAS so-called 'solutions.," the Product Marketing Manager went on to saying.

Synology's DiskStation DS211+ should be available online at a price of roughly $400.
