The BlackBerry PlayBook is finally available for purchase. RIM needed over a half a year to bring it to shelves, but enthusiasts have now the possibility to grab the tablet PC from various retailers, and enjoy its features and capabilities. One of them, of course, involves the playback of audio and video files, which need to be loaded on the device in the first place, so that users can enjoy them while on the go.

Those who already have a BlackBerry smartphone would certainly want to sync various files from one device to another, including videos, photos and more, and the same applies to users without a BlackBerry device as of yet.

Whether they are on the PC at home, or on other devices, these files would have to be moved to the new BlackBerry PlayBook, and the BlackBerry Desktop Software could easily prove a great solution for those interested in making the move.

Managing, transferring, and backing up files can prove an easy and fast process when using the said tool, RIM notes in a recent blog post.

Some of the main features that it offers users would include:

- BlackBerry PlayBook media sync (music/photos/videos) - BlackBerry PlayBook software updates notification with option to upgrade via USB - BlackBerry PlayBook device switch wizard to quickly transfer information (applications/media/settings/user data) between tablets - BlackBerry PlayBook backup and restore (applications/media/settings/user data), with automated backups and data encryption

BlackBerry Desktop Software users might have been already notified on the availability of a new version of the application. For those who weren't, and for new BlackBerry users, a download link can be found at the bottom of this article.

What should be noted is that the BlackBerry Desktop Software is available for both Windows and Mac users, but that the Mac flavor does not come with support for the PlayBook as of now.

“Mac users can still move files to and from their BlackBerry PlayBook via USB or wireless transfer,” RIM notes, adding that an updated version of the application would arrive soon.
