2010 has just gotten a lot more interesting as regards the cinematographic releases coming our way. The Sylvester Stallone written and directed “The Expendables,” the movie that has been making the headlines more and more often in recent months, has just been scheduled for release on April 23, as Collider can confirm.

Of course, fans already knew that “The Expendables” was supposed to drop in 2010, the only thing that they ignored until just recently being a specific day when that would happen, or a month for that matter. Moreover, even if more than a year of waiting seems a bit too much, as the aforementioned e-zine also points out, those who are eager to see Stallone’s next project, in which he also stars, will certainly find the patience to hold on until then.

“The Expendables” is the story of a group of mercenaries sent to a remote location to overthrow a totalitarian regime. Although initially received with nothing but skepticism and sneers, since it was seen as more of an oddity that a movie worth the while, when the names of the first members of the cast started to circulate in the media, people suddenly became more interested in it. From the looks of things so far, “The Expendables” promises a lot and, what’s perhaps more interesting, comes with all the signs that it will also deliver, it has been noted.

Alongside Sylvester Stallone, who will reportedly play the main part, being the leader of the mercenary group, fans will also see Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Forest Whitaker, Eric Roberts, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture and Arnold Schwarzenegger himself. The Governor, though, will not be one of the mercenaries as one might expect. He will, instead, be playing himself, an old friend of Stallone’s character going back to the days when Schwarzenegger was still shooting for “Conan, the Barbarian,” word in the industry has it.

The one actor that is missing from the cast – but not for lack of trying on Stallone’s part – is Jean Claude Van Damme, who was offered a part but turned it down because Sly would only talk of money issues, and could not offer him more details on what the part would be about, as JCVD himself admitted in a recent interview.
