A rebranded MSI Wind

Before the netbook-mania started to take over the entire IT industry, Sylvania was a company known only as a bulb manufacturer. Now that the times have changed, it is preparing for the release of its new netbook, specifically designed to compete with all the other 10-inch ultra-portable computer systems currently available on the market. Simply dubbed MAGNI, the future arrival will come to complete the company's current product lineup. For all those users out there who might be interested in what Sylvania has to offer, they will be able to purchase this netbook sometime before the end of the year.

This isn't the first time we talk about MAGNI, but it is a first in terms of knowing a date for when this 10-inch netbook will hit stores shelves. According to the company, the MAGNI in all its “greatness” (MAGNI is Latin for “great”) will become widely available just in time for the holidays. As noted above, it will extend the company's netbook offer, which also includes the 8.9-inch MESO and the 7-inch G netbook.

Now, just in case you were waiting for a totally different netbook compared with the already vast offer, you have another thing coming your way. The MAGNI from Sylvania is actually a rebranded MSI Wind, which actually translates in the same Atom-powered netbook with a 10-inch display and a 120GB hard drive. Details are rather scarce at this time, but it should deliver 1GB of RAM, and be available with a choice for a Linux or a Windows XP operating system. Unfortunately, there's no word on pricing and battery size yet.

Come to think of it, Sylvania might have chosen just the right netbook to rebrand, as the MSI Wind is one of the most successful and awarded 10-inch products of its kind on the market. If this new version is anything like the MSI Wind, then the company will probably get to register some pretty successful sales.

However, by the time the MAGNI becomes available in stores, other manufacturers are bound to unveil some of their new netbook models as well, in order to make the most of the holidays shopping frenzy.
