This past October 5, an Indian rhino living in captivity at Switzerland's Zoo Basel gave birth to a healthy male calf.

Keepers say that, when arriving into this world, the calf measured about 2 feet (66 centimeters) in height, and tipped the scale at 150 pounds (68 kilograms).

His mother, 31-year-old Ellora, is doing a great job looking after him, meaning that she is nursing him regularly and is watching his every step.

Zoo Borns tells us that the calf was been named Kiran, which is Hindi for “sunrise.” He presently shares a barn with his mother and with his older sister, 3-year-old Henna. The latter appears to have taken quite a liking to him.

Keeper say the baby rhino is very confident, and that it will probably not be long until he decides to explore the outdoor enclosure.
