The folks at TouchType have just announced a major update to their highly acclaimed SwiftKey application for Android smartphones and tablets.

The most important change is the fact that it brings together both tablet and phone apps to offer a unified experience to Android users.

Moreover, the new version of SwiftKey is available as public beta, so everyone can download and install it on their Android devices.

The latest version of SwiftKey 4.3 allows users to take advantage of new keyboard layouts that can be resized and moved anywhere on a device.

“Allowing people to manipulate the location, size and layout of the keyboard not only makes it easier to type – it gives our users a more personalized way to interact with their technology and each other. We are committed to creating world-class user experiences that marry our powerful language technology with interfaces that learn and adapt to each user's needs,” said Co-Founder and CTO Ben Medlock.

According to the developers, this iteration of SwiftKey comes packed with three preset keyboard modes:

- Compact, which provides users with the option to minimize the width of the keyboard and allows for much easier typing with one hand or gesture typing using SwiftKey Flow.

- Full, allows users with devices that pack larger screens to opt for a full-width keyboard with left-right cursor control keys and a backspace key above the “Enter” key.

- Thumb, aimed at users who are typing on tablets in landscape mode, as well as people with wide phones in portrait, this type of keyboard can be split into two sections.

Last but not least, developers have added a cloud-based hub for each user's personal language profile, which is shared with any phone or tablet.

You can now download SwiftKey 4.3 beta for Android for free via the developer's website. Keep in mind that the application is fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.1 and up.
