Making technology delicious...

Who said technology (especially electronics) has to come packed in silicon-based boards and rare alloys? Well, a guy with an obvious sweet tooth decided to demonstrate that one could designe electronic circuits using only the "raw" materials found in a grocery store. Being two of the most favorite things in the world, it was about time someone got around to combine playing with technology and playing with food.

First things first, begin by gathering all the necessary building blocks and then assemble them in "circuitry snacks" for fun, dessert, geek friends, kids or simply for teaching and learning electronics (yeah, sure!). All available materials should be divided into the following groups: substrates, wiring, active and passive components. Crackers are good starters for building a circuit board, with frosting or icing to represent wires and traces. A green "solder mask" can be emulated by spraying the crackers with an aerosol used for food coloring and pretzel sticks. Haribo licorice wheels are an excellent source of wires as the rolls are long and thin.

Any number of chocolate bars can be easily made into sweet versions of integrated circuits. All you have to do next, after selecting your favorite chocolate bar, is to use hard icing to add a legend to the top, a marker for the first pin and an even number of pins to the edges. To make LEDs all you have to do is select some little gumdrops that look like regular diodes, then stand them up on two toothpicks or pretzel sticks. Much like LEDs, most of these Dots come in red, green, yellow, orange and blue colors.

Putting it all together required some degree of patience as most of the "electronic" components are quite fragile and they tend to melt if kept for too long. Hopefully, now you can assemble your very own edible circuits and create some interesting boards for dessert.
