Eddi Törnberg, a Swedish design student, recently came up with a highly innovative concept: a desk capable of generating electricity by using the kinetic energy of people working at it.

As the researcher explains, he got this idea after reading about how humans are first and foremost creatures of laziness. Thus, he decided to put this inherent feature to better use and the “Unplugged” desk was born.

Although most people spend hours on end in a chair at the office, Eddi Törnberg believes that the energy they generate while writing or simply moving stacks of paper from one corner of the desk to another can be converted into electricity and used to re-charge mobile phones and the like.

All in all, it seems that the days when a desk was but a desk are well behind us.
