Susan Boyle’s debut album, “I Dreamed a Dream,” a compilation of covers, turned out to be the biggest release of 2009, and not only from a newcomer, figures indicate. According to the Daily Mail, the album even managed to block Andrea Bocelli’s “My Christmas” from reaching the number 1 spot in US Billboard charts, for which reason the opera legend has decided he wants to duet with the Scottish singer sensation.

As per the same publication, the duet will take place on an upcoming reality show in the vein of Britain’s Got Talent – but with a twist. The purpose of the show will be, as per ongoing reports, to teach pop stars to sing opera: clearly, there is no better candidate for it that Susan Boyle whose crystal clear and strong voice has gotten critics to sing her praise ever since she first auditioned for BGT.

“Boyle, 48, will be buoyed by the new that she will sing a duet with opera legend Andrea Bocelli on ITV1’s forthcoming show Pop Star To Opera Star, in which pop singers will be trained to sing arias. Earlier this month, Susan shocked record label executives when her LP I Dreamed A Dream prevented Bocelli’s ‘My Christmas’ by getting to the number one position in the US Billboard charts,” the Mail writes.

It was this very “defeat” in the charts, it is further being said, that got Bocelli to think of a duet. “Susan has held Andrea off the top of the US charts for weeks – it’s incredible. But he holds no grudges – he joked that he ‘must sing with this amazing woman’,” an unnamed industry insider says for the British media. As of now, further details are not yet available on what will certainly turn out to be an impressive collaboration, but more on it should emerge in the following days.

At the moment, Susan Boyle is in Japan, where she’s been asked to perform on New Year’s Eve on a top-rating program, the Mail also says. Keep an eye on this space for more on the duet.
