Late last week, music mogul and television personality Simon Cowell announced that he too would be doing his bit to help earthquake victims in Haiti, by getting a stellar lineup for a cover of REM’s classic “Everybody Hurts.” Not much was known at the time about the material, but the Daily Mail and several other British tabs now have all the details, including all the singers who have contributed to the song.

Britain’s Got Talent underdog Susan Boyle, X Factor judge and Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole, pop star Miley Cyrus, R&B diva Mariah Carey and rock icon Rod Stewart have all recorded their part for the cover, whose proceeds will be entirely redirected to organizations offering help to Haiti. Michael Buble, Mika, Kylie Minogue, Westlife, James Blunt, Alexandra Burke and many others have also lent their voices for a good cause, the publication says.

“If you want to get something done, ask a busy person. And yesterday that person was Cheryl Cole. The X Factor judge squeezed in a recording session for a charity single to raise money for the victims of the Haiti earthquake. A day earlier she was appearing at a music awards ceremony in Germany, where her rather outrageous catsuit raised eyebrows,” the Mail writes. One day later, she was in a London studio, recording Cowell’s new song, it goes on to say.

At one point even, Cheryl got so emotional that she could hardly hold back tears. Still, the British media is saying, she pulled herself together and finished recording her part of the song. “Everybody Hurts,” the version made for charity, will reportedly come out no later than next week. As we also told you over the weekend, VAT for the release has been officially waived, with Gordon Brown saying this was the best method to encourage sales and, this way, offer more help to the earthquake victims.

“As Mrs. Cole recorded her part, Robbie Williams and his former Take That bandmates reunited to record theirs in Los Angeles. The track is now nearly finished and the single is due to be released within a week. Rod Stewart, Michael Buble, James Morrison and Westlife have already taken part. Money raised from the sale of the single will be split between the charities trying to help Haiti cope in the aftermath of the quake earlier this month,” the Mail also says.
