Until now, should an astronaut need surgical treatment, he or she would have been forced to wait until returning to Earth to receive the proper care. This scenario will end as soon as a new generation of robots will take over the remote surgery business. These robots were created by a group of researchers at the University of Nebraska, and they will be ordered what to do by a real surgeon on Earth.

The lipstick-like shape of these robots is very surprising considering the complicated operations they have to perform. Some of the robots come with video cameras installed, while others have attached surgical equipment, but all are remotely maneuvered.

Because of the delay in communications between Earth and space, NASA will have to train the astronauts to operate the robots and perform the surgery based on the information received from doctors on Earth.

These robots are less intrusive because they require a smaller incision than in classic surgery, so the patients should recover more quickly. At the same time, surgeons will have a clearer image of what is happening, thanks to the magnifying effect of the cameras.

If you need a less ordinary holiday present, one of these robots should do the trick, as they are affordable, at just $200 per robot.
