It appears that retail giants today are not just rivaling to bring the best t-shirt or juicing machine deals. They have taken things further and are competing to get customers’ attention in terms of tablets as well.

Supermarket giant Tesco has started selling its budget tablet Hudl not so long ago and it appears that sales were encouraging. That might change, however, since Argos has also decided to offer customers an alternative by virtue of its new MyTablet, says AndroidCommunity.

Argos’s new slate packs a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and offers 8GB of storage capacity. This is not that much even compared to the low cost Hudl, which ships bearing a better display with a resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels and is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. Compared to MyTablet, it brings 16GB of storage. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB and HDMI are also provided.

Argos is not offering much here, so it has priced the device accordingly, at just £99 / $160 / €116. On top of Hudl, MyTablet will have to watch out for the Amazon Kindle Fire that comes with the same price tag and the bit more expensive Google Nexus 7. MyTablet is set to launch October 16.
