With a little help from the USB SuperBooster Wall Plate provided by Cables to Go

Most peripherals launched on the market nowadays use the Universal Serial Bus in order to connect to a computing system. However, in certain situations and for various reasons, technical problems make such a connection impossible and this is exactly the reason why the USB SuperBooster Wall Plate that has just been made available by Cables To Go extends the range of the USB signal up to around 45 meters (or 150 feet, for our US readers).

The device consists of a transmitter unit and receiver unit incorporated into two, single gang wall plates compatible with the Leviton Decora brand cover plates. The transmitter/receiver pair is connected via standard cat5, cat5E, or cat6 UTP cable, thus allowing for an easy in-wall installation. Moreover, the USB SuperBooster Wall Plate is a self-powered device, so no external power source is required.

As mentioned earlier, the USB SuperBooster Wall Plate is quite easy to install within the existing building. Thus, the device works with most standard J-boxes, which means that the user won't have to make any impromptu modifications (which might actually prove to be quite dangerous, if not carried out properly) and it even comes with tool-less IDC RJ45 connectors, allowing users to terminate their own cables.

As you might have suspected, the USB extension system's transmitter incorporates one USB Type B Female connector and one RJ45 Female connector, while the receiver also sports a RJ45 Female connector, as well as a USB Type A Female connector. Unfortunately, both USB connectors support only the USB 1.1 specification, which is actually a major setback, considering the fact that USB 1.1 provides relatively low data transfer rates.

The USB SuperBooster Wall Plate presented by Cables To Go retails for around 130 US dollars and might prove to be a very good solution for those areas that do require USB connections, but where the sight of a bunch of USB cables laying around the room does not benefit the overall room aesthetics.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
