The abandoned TV radio frequencies are going to be used to provide Wi-Fi in rural areas

Giving up radio TV seems like a bad idea to us, since nowadays everybody must pay some sort of fee to receive the TV signal, as opposed to the times when only the electrical bill was paid; however, we believe that this is a useful initiative.

Gone are the times when independent TV stations could be started in America to give viewers a different opinion than the current manipulating media corporations.

It is not yet known whether the proposed service is free or not, but Microsoft and Google have reportedly entered into an agreement with more than 500 colleges and universities to try and offer Wi-Fi internet access using old TV frequencies.

The goal is to be able to provide about 10 Mb/s of bandwidth to rural areas, and we believe that huge amounts of money are required for this to become a reality. However, Microsoft and Google are two of the largest companies on the planet, so there should be enough funding in that respect.
