In the excitement that is surrounding the development of Street Fighter IV and the release of the planned Street Fighter movies, news regarding the Super Street Fighter II Turbo High Definition Remix game from Capcom might get lost. But the game is shaping up to be such an interesting re-invention of the original Street Fighter II that we just had to tell you about the public beta that is beginning today.

Even if the game is set to be released during autumn for both the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360, the beta is only available to those that own an Xbox 360 and have purchased the Xbox Live Arcade title Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3. The game is priced at about 800 Microsoft points, which is around ten dollars, so fans of Street Fighter might even consider getting Wolf of the Battlefield just to be in the beta. It may look weird to tie the beta to an already launched game, but it's a useful way of cutting out people that are not real franchise fans.

The beta will install itself in the Demo section of the Xbox interface and will allow participants to play, either online or locally, two player fights that involve Ryu or Ken. There are a variety of multiplayer modes available, like Player Match, "Quarter" Match, Ranked Match and Tournament Mode. The main purpose of the beta is to stress test the network infrastructure that Capcom has developed for the game before the official launch.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo High Definition Remix is aiming to re-create the classic arcade game with modern graphics and gameplay mechanics, giving younger gamers a chance to experience the fun of one on one fighting games. Expect appearances from all the original fighters and the guys at Capcom have been hinting at a couple of surprises, as well.
