The organizers of the EVO fighting game focused event and Major League Gaming are both announcing that they have managed to deal with the issues they had with Nintendo and that Super Smash Bros. Melee is set to be returning to eSports in force this year.

EVO will take place between July 11 and July 13 at the Las Vegas Hotel & Casino and will feature seven of the most important fighting games in the world.

The organizers are saying that the Super Smash Bros. Melee competition will involve more than 700 of the best gamers in the world.

eSports organizations have had a problem with the intellectual rights associated with the series and there was a chance that it would be completely dropped from the line-up

A representative from Nintendo is quoted by NeoGAF as saying that, “The fact that Super Smash Bros. Melee is being used to help determine champion status for competitive gamers so many years after it was released is a testament to the strong fan passion for both this individual game and the Super Smash Bros. franchise overall.”

Fans are speculating that the two eSports organizations were unable to secure the rights to stream Super Smash Bros. Brawl because it includes third-party characters that Nintendo does not hold the rights for.

The roster of Melee is made up entirely of fighters that are part of the company’s own franchises.

Nintendo adds that it is “happy to work with both Evo and Major League Gaming to help make their tournaments come to life using the game, and we hope it helps make their events enjoyable for video game fans everywhere.”

Both EVO and Major League Gaming will announce more details about their new Super Smash Bros. Melee tournaments in the coming weeks, including confirmed competitors and info about how players will be able to stream the content.

At the moment, Nintendo is working on a new Super Smash Bros. video game that will be launched on both the Wii U home console and on the 3DS handheld.

The two versions of the game are different and offer interesting twists on the core mechanics of the series, although no cross-platform play is being developed.

The developers have said that they will change some of the main concepts behind the franchise and have steadily been offering more information about the characters that are part of the rooster.

Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS does not have a launch date.
