The fighting game is set to debut in October on the 3DS, Q4 2014 on the Wii U

Nintendo has unveiled three new fighters, all joining the already extensive cast of the upcoming brawling game Super Smash Bros., coming to the Wii U and 3DS platforms later this year.

Just like its forebearers, Super Smash Bros. is a competitive multiplayer fighting game in which players assume control of various Nintendo characters, attempting to knock them out of the playing field.

Nintendo has released a brand-new trailer earlier today, showing Fire Emblem's Lucina, and Robin (with both male and female versions) all ready to step into the arena. Although Captain Falcon didn't get his own introduction, his showing up in the video is a pretty good bet that the popular warrior is set to make a comeback.

For now, it's unclear whether the two Robins are just two different skins of the same character, although it is highly unlikely that there are in fact two different characters.

The reveal will surely come as a surprise to many, as fans were already speculating that there wouldn't be any more swordsmen added to the game, theorizing that Chrom and Lucina would be left out completely, due to the Fire Emblem series being already represented by Marth and Ike.

The reveal video carries the Fire Emblem series' signature stylized CGI veneer, showing Lucina clashing with Captain Falcon, before Robin has a chance to stand between them.

Chrom and Lucina seem to have play styles revolving around the use of their swords, while Robin has a rather interesting moveset, being able to use the Fire Emblem series' magical tomes in order to employ lighting, water and fire attacks in the arena, with a limited number of uses for each tome.

The latest addition to the Super Smash Bros. cast was Pac-Man, revealed during this year's edition of the E3 gaming exposition in June. Pac-Man was slotted in at number 33, making the roster 37-big for now.

If the release of Mario Kart 8 was any indication, Super Smash Bros. is primed to mark yet another copious amount of new users for Nintendo's struggling Wii U console, three months from now.

The 3DS and Wii U editions of the game will feature a bunch of technical differences, but they will include the same cast of fighters and the same moves. There will also be some exclusive stages and trophies to each of the two versions of the popular fighting game.

Super Smash Bros. is coming out for the Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming device on September 13 in Japan, October 3 in North America and Europe, and October 4 in Australia. The Wii U version of the brawling game is scheduled to pop up sometime in Q4 2014.
