Super OS 10.04 has been released. The Ubuntu derivative sticks pretty close to the original, but aims to make it a bit more user friendly, mostly by including more multimedia codecs and more default packages.

"Here is the new Super OS 10.04, based on Ubuntu 10.04.1. The much awaited 64 bits version is now available, and includes ia32-libs to improve compatibility with 32 bits applications," the official announcement read.

"The included cd2usb is now 100% mouse-driven: no more CLI-style interfaces-Java was replaced with OpenJDK," it added.

"KDE and some QT libraries previously included were removed to free up some space (I will consider if they will be re-included in the future)," it continued. "Moonlight removed due a bug in the Ubuntu packages (Silverlight/Moonlight should be avoided anyway)."

Super OS 10.04, despite the name, is based directly on Ubuntu 10.04.1, the latest release of the long-term support version which bundles all of the updates and patches made available after the initial release.

One of the differentiating features, at least for the 64-bit version, is the inclusion of some 32-bit libraries for better support of non-native applications.

Super OS 10.04 also comes with the VLC media player and has support out of the box for DVDs, MP3s, QuickTime and Real video files, WMV, DivX, Xvid and most other popular video and audio formats.

The Ubuntu remix bundles more web browsers by default, Firefox 3.6.8, Google Chrome 6, Opera 10.61, as well as other instant messengers like aMSN and Skype.

The Wubi installer is now working again, having been removed from Super OS 9.10, and has been included.

There is also a tool for creating an USB installer straight from the DVD in Windows, cd2usb.
