Super Micro Computer, one of the world's leading vendors of high-performance servers, has announced today that it will be showcasing its new double-sided storage chassis at the Storage Visions 2010 conference between January 5 and January 6.

Said to be a world's first, the new Supermicro SC847 series server chassis features 36 hot swap 3.5-inch hard drive trays with 24 placed in front and the 12 other in the rear. In addition, the chassis has been designed to integrate a Platinum Level redundant power supply, providing 94+ efficiency.

“Adding these double-sided, high-capacity storage chassis to our storage portfolio provides our customers with direct hot-swap access to all of the storage drives while saving valuable rack space," said Charles Liang, CEO and president, Supermicro. “Besides saving enterprises hundreds of dollars per system on their energy bills, Supermicro's full range of storage solutions also help preserve the environment. Supermicro's latest 1U, 2U, 3U and 4U storage chassis feature optimized iPass connectivity, SES-2 features and enhanced hard drive trays as well as 100% recyclable, palletized packaging."

The server has the world's first fully redundant Platinum Level power supply, featuring PMBus functionality and ensuring a superior power management. In addition, this new chassis can provide customers with support for both 6Gb/s and 3Gb/s SAS interfaces, offering a choice for high-bandwidth storage applications. For JBOD configurations, the chassis can support 21 drives in the rear, for a total of 45 hot-swap 3.5-inch drives.

Aside from the SC847 model, the company can provide customers with a wide choice of chassis formats, in 2U, 3U and 4U configurations, with flexible support for both uni-processor (UP) and dual-processor (DP) motherboards. According to the maker, these units can work even if one of the internal cooling fans fails, enabling continuous operation without any performance loss.
