Shigeru Miyamoto plans to make the game more difficult

It seems like it's not just gamers that feel the nostalgia of the old titles. Nintendo misses all the verbal abuse along with the following praise it received from the nerve-wrecking games from the days of the NES. Stuck on the Wii, the latest titles the gaming giant released were mainly aimed either at a younger audience or at a more casual market, and their difficulty was manageable, to put it mildly. But the company misses the reputation it had of delivering some the most difficult games around.

One of its games to pick up the pace is the New Super Mario Bros. Wii that has quite few sections that are a bit too difficult for the casual players. And, from recent statements, it seems like Super Mario Galaxy 2 will follow the same trend and prove to be a more challenging game. Talking to Shigeru Miyamoto, Official Nintendo Magazine found out that the SM Galaxy 2 might just be hard enough to require the Super Guide. "Well, as far as the challenge of Super Mario Galaxy 2 is concerned, I think it's going to be a really challenging game, but whether or not we are going to incorporate the Super Guide, I just cannot tell," Miyamoto said.

He further added that, "In general, wherever and whenever appropriate, I think we will want to incorporate that kind of thing, but I cannot commit to anything specific right now." In case you're not familiar with it, the Super Guide was incorporated in New Super Mario Bros. Wii as a helping hand for those that found themselves stuck and unable to complete a certain level. When the Guide was turned on, the AI took control of Luigi and ran through the level in order to solve some of the more difficult sections for the player.

But this was a mere "show and tell but don't touch." The player could retake control at any point during the Super Guide, but, once they did, they would be unable to receive further support from the AI. In the past, Miyamoto suggested that Galaxy 2 would be more difficult than the first one, as it had been designed "with consideration that we believe that people who played through the first Mario Galaxy have become better players."
