Activision, the publisher of the Guitar Hero franchise, has announced the songs that players will be able to download for the series during the month of August. Rockers will be able to enjoy the music of such bands as Sum 41, P.O.D., Megadeth, the Used and Weezer. The news about downloadable content comes just as Activision is preparing to launch the all new Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock during September.

The first to arrive in August will be The Used, who are contributing three songs to the franchise. Players can download and enjoy songs “The Taste Of Ink”, a single from the debut album of the band, and also “The Bird And The Worm” and “Pretty Handsome Awkward”, taken from “Lies for the Liars”.

The Sum 41 DLC will include “Fat Lip” coming together with “In Too Deep”, taken from “All Killer, No Filler” and the more recent “Still Waiting,” the first single launched to promote “Does This Look Infected?”.

The middle of the month will bear witness to the launch of a pack built around alternative rockers Weezer. Their track pack will include “Beverly Hills”, “Pork And Beans” and “Island In The Sun”, all offered on August 17. Megadeth are coming on August 24, one week later, offering “Symphony of Destruction,” “Hangar 18” and “Peace Sells”, three of their best known songs. The band will also be contributing exclusive content for the upcoming Warriors of Rock.

P.O.D. are set to make their debut in Guitar Hero on August 31 and will offer fans a chance to play along to “Southtown”, “Youth Of The Nation” and “Boom”. The new packs will be offered for 440 Microsoft Points on the Xbox 360 and 550 Wii Points on the Nintendo home console. Players can also choose to just download one track at a time for a smaller price.
