When it comes to high-class audio gear, style has on many occasions one very important role to play: it simply makes the difference between gear which sells and gear which sells later, during crushing rebate-periods. It's simply more than once in a while when style prevails over the very technical specifications, and it's not in the case of fancy people with zero knowledge on audio tech... it's all as simple as looks making a difference, in relation to the specific place where the audio gear should end up installed.[admark=1]

As far as the Avantone Active MixCubes are concerned, style was a matter of heritage as it had to go hand in hand with the worldwide-acclaimed previous Mix Cubes speakers; they have set a new and strong trend in the active recording/mixdown monitor markets, boasting exceptional quality and beautiful shaping. These speakers were among the elite one with a distinctive, personal look, easy to recognize from hundreds of similar units, like top-drawer names such as Genelec used to.

The new product, the Avantone Active MixCubes come with careful engineering and advanced design and have been created to be the perfect small-but-powerful monitoring solution for fixed or portable installations, with high-class full-range transducers and self-contained amplifiers. The full-range solution has been widely-adopted for the new Avantone gear not because a multiple-way one would be unnecessary but because such a sonic representation can not deliver the best all-over results: namely, despite the amazing sound reproduction of 2-or 3-way monitoring systems, their response offers no clue on how would the mixed track sound on stereos, clock radios, TVs and so many more "imperfect" audio devices. The single-drive full-range solution without the aid of a crossover was proven to be one of the best ways to get a generic acoustic imaging of the actual track response when played back on bass/treble challenged systems.

The cabinet of the Avantone Active MixCubes has been crafted from non-layered high-rigidity MDF board, with radiused edges and a 7mm-thick neoprene isolation base with non-skid texture. The 5.25" paper cone drivers come with low-carbon steel motors and Y-40 magnets; the surround of the driver is made from a special cloth while the frame has been made from die-cast aluminium.

The Avantone Active MixCubes come with 90-17kHz accessible frequency range, with 94dB sensitivity and 8 Ohms impedance; these speakers will deliver up to 35W RMS Class A/B power and retail for less than $370 a pair. And in case you ask yourself if you can have them running in your living room or office, the answer is "Yes! And then watch people envying you!".
