StuffIt Standard does what its name implies - solves basic expansion and compression needs. Since it incorporates the functionality of StuffIt Expander, DropStuff, DropZip, and DropTar into one convenient program, users are able to create and access email attachments, or download files over the Internet faster than ever. The latest version of StuffIt Standard adds a patch that changes the behavior of the installer to not allow the removal of older versions by default.
StuffIt Expander lets users expand and decode pretty much all the compressed files they download from any source. StuffIt files, uncompress Zip archives created by WinZIP, and other zip utilities, tar, gzip and bzip archives, are a child's play for StuffIt Expander. These are just highlights, of course, as more formats are supported. The utility offers drag & drop functionality, keeping every action simple and fast. You can also convert from BinHex to Zip, from StuffIt to MIME, etc.
Still, nothing can beat StuffIt Deluxe, which provides advanced compression of your MP3s, PDFs and graphic files. StuffIt’s newly patented technology compresses 24-bit images, including TIFFs, PNGs, BMPs and GIFs. Apple iWorks and Microsoft Office documents are handled much better with StuffIt Deluxe, as it boasts optimized compression for these formats. Both StuffIt Expander and StuffIt Deluxe include the changed behavior of the installer, so the apps don't remove older versions by default, while archive recompression now applies only to the Zip formats. The issue related to the creation of StuffIt X format archives out of Self-Extracting Zip archives (.exe), with the Zip recompression enabled, has been fixed as well.
