Four students have been injured in a stabbing at a suburban Houston high-school today.

The incident has been reported at Spring High School on North Freeway, with one of the students incurring fatal wounds.

The stabbings took place on campus before classes, at roughly 7.10 a.m. Harris County Sheriff's Office identifies the casualty as 16-year-old Josh Broussard.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. A second boy, 16-year-old Deavean Bazile, was airlifted to a hospital in life-threatening condition.

A LifeFlight medical helicopter took him to Memorial Hermann-The Texas Medical Center. He has received treatment and he is now stable. He was stabbed on his side but he is recovering.

"All I saw was a trail of blood. It was, like, a trail of blood from the beginning of the cafeteria to all the way to the nurse's office. I saw the dude bleeding and bleeding and just holding his side," one student tells KTRK.

Officials believe that a brawl between Latino and African American students at the school prompted the stabbing.

"We thought, 'Oh, it's just a fight and then it got really serious," student Danielle Ferreira details.

Spring ISD Superintendent Ralph H. Draper has expressed his support for the victims' families.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragic event. Our hearts and prayers are with the victims and the students who have been impacted by this event. We sincerely thank our parents for their patience as we focus on keeping our students safe and protecting the integrity of the ongoing investigation," he states.

He describes the fight as gang-related, an account confirmed by parents and students.

"When street violence pours into the school, it compromises the safety of all our students," Draper says.

"Last year there were gang fights consistently. [...] This is ridiculous. This is an ongoing situation," parent Tara Campbell adds.
