A NYU student has been rescued after being trapped between two walls for 36 hours. Asher Vongtau was alive and stable, and he was even conscious and moving when he was found.

19-year-old Asher Vongtau doesn't remember how he got there. He was found in between buildings at a NYU dorm building at 80 Lafayette Street, Chinatown, in lower Manhattan.

The narrow air shaft where he stayed for almost two days is shown in the photo above. He disappeared at about 7 a.m. Saturday and he might have jumped off the roof of the dorm.

His fall was broken by the fact that he got stuck in the narrow space. Rescuers were forced to break a cinderblock in order to extricate him.

“I saw him frantically running up the stairs while people were exiting the building because the fire alarm had been pulled,” student Colin Chenel tells New York Daily News.
